Located in the heart of Tampa Bay, this property has two water features, a small quarter acre pond and a larger 1.27 acre pond.

CONTROLLING INVASIVE AQUATIC PLANTS

The residents consider it to be waterfront living at its best as it is just minutes away from restaurants, shopping and entertainment. In late October 2015, the management at Carlyle at Waters contacted Aquatic Systems to discuss methods for eradicating a recent infestation of Spatterdock lilies taking over their pond. During initial meetings they explained that Waters at Carlyle is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation and would like the Spatterdock which covered 70% of their main pond removed quickly without harming the pond’s ecosystem and in time for their grand re-opening.

SOLUTION

After surveying the pond’s condition, it became apparent that the high manual labor and equipment demand required for physical removal of the vegetation would be very costly and quick regrowth of the lily pads was likely. So Aquatic Systems proposed a spray treatment that would eliminate the Spatterdock within 7 to 10 days thereby providing Carlyle the fast results they needed, the ecological protection required but also costing just half as much as a physical removal project.

RESULTS

Aquatic Systems treated the Spatterdock in just a few hours on October 29th. Within five days the Spatterdock was brown and decaying and after just nine days on November 7th the Spatterdock was gone and the surface was clear. The Carlyle management team met their pond management goals on time and under-budget!
